How do tides form?
The primary cause of tides is the gravitational pull of the Moon and the Sun acting on the ocean waters.
Because the Moon is closer to Earth, it has the strongest influence, pulling seawater into a bulge on the side facing the Moon. Simultaneously, the rotation of the Earth-Moon system creates inertial force, causing seawater to bulge on the opposite side.
Therefore, two regions of rising water always exist on Earth, creating the phenomenon of tides rising and falling on a daily cycle.
Where does wind come from?
Wind is the movement of air in the atmosphere.
The Earth's surface does not receive heat from the Sun evenly. Areas that heat up quickly create low-pressure zones, while cooler areas form high-pressure zones. Air always moves from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure, creating wind.
The greater the temperature difference, the stronger the wind.
What creates ocean currents?
Ocean currents are large-scale movements of seawater.
The most important driving force behind them is the prevailing wind systems in the atmosphere, such as trade winds, westerlies, and monsoons. By blowing continuously over long periods, these wind currents push surface water masses, forming vast ocean currents.
Additionally, differences in temperature, seawater salinity, and the Earth's rotation also contribute to shaping the direction of ocean currents.
These three seemingly distinct phenomena are actually all results of the natural forces constantly operating our planet.
